PAYM8 Celebrates 6th year of M-Commerce Enablement
PAYM8 a South African M-Commerce enabler celebrates their 6th anniversary of technology enablement for Botswana’s largest mobile network operator – Mascom Wireless. The service know as Mascom’s VISA 109 Direct Top-Up enables Mascom customers to do an airtime top-up or pay their bills directly from their mobile phone using a Debit or Credit card.
PAYM8’s CEO, Andrew Springate is quoted as saying, “The PAYM8 solution was one of the first Mobile-Commerce solutions in Africa and with over 20 million transactions has been a success story from day one” Mascom’s 109 Direct Top–Up Solution has been powered by the PAYM8 platform since February 2004.

PAYM8 a PCI DSS (Payments Card Industry Data Security Standard) and VISA certified Mobile Commerce and Financial Collections company is based in Johannesburg and adopts an ASP [Application Service Provider] model processing transactions from Namibia, Botswana and South Africa via their hosted facility in Pretoria.
Springate believes PAYM8 offers a unique value proposition in positioning PAYM8 as a technology enabler - “Why build or buy your own solution when you can outsource the technology supply to a specialist company? Whilst our philosophy ensures you never lose ownership of your brand nor your customer, we relieve organizations of the onerous responsibility of developing, maintaining and certifying their own solutions. This is both cost effective and makes for a nimbler organization! Not only do M-Commerce platforms need building incorporating best practice design principles, but they also take significant time, skill and expertise, not forgetting the added requirement of on-going certification and maintenance. Applications like Mobile Purchases (Cellular Airtime, Pre-Paid Electricity, Pay-Fine etc), Mobile Banking and Mobile Bill Payment & Presentment all form part of the certified payment platform offered by PAYM8.”
